We're thrilled to join the Florida Department of Education in celebrating Gifted Education Week! The Florida Department of Education has officially designated November 3-7, 2025, as Gifted Education Week in Florida! This is a fantastic time to recognize Florida's commitment to providing rigorous educational experiences and tailored support for our advanced learners.

Here in Highlands County, we are celebrating the incredible achievements and innovative spirit of our students. Our elementary gifted students have been exploring this year's hands-on curriculum, "The Carnival of Creativity."

Building Skills for the Future
Our students are engaging in hands-on, collaborative projects that focus on their intellectual growth and the development of critical academic skills:

STEAM & Design Challenges: Students are tackling real-world, carnival-themed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) challenges. They are applying the engineering design process and using math and science concepts to create a variety of products.

Building Resilience: A key focus is on developing perseverance and a growth mindset. These challenges are intentionally complex, giving students a safe space to practice problem-solving, learn from setbacks, and build grit.

Innovation and Leadership: Through teamwork, students are honing their critical and creative thinking abilities, practicing leadership skills, and developing real-world problem-solving strategies.

Friday, Oct 31st: “Piecing together a Spook-takcular Life”

Theme: Wear your Halloween costume! (School appropriate, no weapons, or masks)

Focus: You can make healthy, safe choices even on fun and spooky days - and that is a smart piece of life’s puzzle.

Thurs, Oct 30th: “You’re the Missing Piece”

Theme: Wear School spirit gear or Dragon GREEN!

Focus: Every student is a unique and important part of our school and their community.

This Friday, October 31st, is our Annual Costume Parade. We love having our parents and families here. We will be starting at 8:30, so please arrive early to get your ID scanned. We can't wait to see everyone!

Tues, Oct 28th: “Fit In with Kindness”

Theme: Wear pink or red to show love, kindness, and friendship.

Focus: Making kind choices and being a good friend is part of a healthy life

Mon, Oct 27th : “Piece by Piece, I’m building a HEALTHY Life”

Theme: Wear lots of colors (like a mix-match of puzzle pieces)

Focus: Every healthy habit you practice is a piece of your success - exercise, sleep, kindness, and nutrition.

Wed, Oct 29th: “Put the Pieces Together with Healthy Choices”

Theme: Wear workout clothes, sneakers, or other sports shirts.

Focus: Physical Activity and nutrition are key puzzle pieces to a strong body and brain.

Our next HAT DAY is October 16th. Donate $1 to wear a hat to school and help 5th grade raise funds for their end-of-year activities!

Don't forget, this Wednesday is a 2-hour early release (9/24/25). All bus routes & parent pickup lines will be two hours earlier on Wednesday. Please notify your child's teacher if there is a change in the way your child will be going home.

Art Club is CANCELLED for this week (9/22-9/26). We will be back at it next week!

Tuesday, September 16th is Picture Day! Please don't forget that the money is due on September 16th. No late payments will be accepted by the school, and the school cannot provide change.

Don't forget Wednesday is EARLY RELEASE and SNOW CONE DAY! Help support our PE and Art teachers by purchasing a Snow Cone. The money raised will be used to help purchase supplies!
